“wish I knew what you were looking for…

might have known what you would find” … a different kind of Church, for sure, but hey – it IS sunday morning!

A new week, the ending of the month/quarter. Matt’s made his move north, the cheesecake and Blue Moon have helped, talk talk talk leading to understanding maybe?

Yet still, memories – pickup rides through austin back roads, the sisters Becky and Corrie(sp?), the stars up above the great lone star state – actually all the times that Texas factored into my life… and the road trips with stars – hmmm… memories. so nice at times.

ok. odd sunday post done – CHECK!!!

ciao,

Blue Moon & a slice of cheesecake…

gets the day done is what I’m saying.
says ‘hey, got thru the day, and that’s about as good as it gets!’… can even look back over a nice rise and shine, breakfast in the dining room with Boo, sun streaming in. Frosty cool outside for Blue to stroll about after the trimming of the nails.
delving thru stuff, finding important stuff (hey Marty, do I have something for YOU!!), dealing with the fact that I hold on stuff for the slimmest of reasons. and glad it’s done from time to time…
for the challenges of friends in tough times, for the challenges of who you might think you are, for the challenges of finding a place to eat – we made it through. Even got some shelves cut for the high-boy in the dining room!
for brothers of brothers, friends of sisters, and the odd your’s humbly, let’s keep having lots and lots of good days, ok?

wow…

A Friday, a TEDTalk, and perhaps a glimmer of hope.

“if you fall to your left, you’re gonna fall 8,000 feet into Nepal. If you fall to your right, you’ll fall 12,000 feet into Tibet. So, it’s better to fall into Tibet cause you’ll live longer”

perhaps I will just link to the talk in stead of embedding; but to share the point of this talk – “The Power of the Human Mind” – is that a doctor on Mt. Everest watched Beck Weathers, as a climber who had been left for dead for a day and a half, walked into base camp and joked “will you accept my insurance?”. Black humor at it’s best, but somehow Beck’s will to survive achieved just that – his survival.

Our will is a very important thing. Be it in response to Fate’s power to bend your path, the non-deliberate, sub-conscious refusal to acknowledge tragic truths, or just pig-headed stubbornness in realizing “I don’t want to die today”.

And so we might get health care reform on Sunday. What a fabulous spring it will be, as we realize we’re gonna have to work, and sacrifice, and hurt to the things we want. Will we be able to focus our collective will to accomplish greatness, or is it too little way too late?

Bruce & Elvis … singing Sam & Dave…

Elvis Costello had a great show called ‘Spectacle … with Elvis Costello’, and they wrapped the series with a 2 part Elvis and Bruce show … it’s amazing to hear such down to earth ‘this is what it was’ from essentially Titans. Of course, it’s not in this instance, and nor is it ever, a mysterious secret revealed – ‘music, people take it personally'(kinda like ‘eat your veggies and exercise’ – really wish it was at least once ‘steal the magical beans from the giant, and don’t get caught by the three-headed dog’ sigh)

Somewhat related is this:

Don’t worry, be happy.
Carrie’s suggestion to me, just as a way to get on the path …
it was a lovely 19 mile walk through the rain with her! Uphill!! Both ways!!!

From Spring Livin'

ok, maybe more like 9’sh miles… still a lot of fun!

Music. makes living better.
Friends – make living better.
F1 racing – well, we can live without it, but would we want to? ;-|
A group of grown men, huddled around a laptop, propped up on the ledge of a restaurant’s window on Franklin Street, chapel hill, across from a church, who’s congregation also started gathering … testament to faith, and belief, and hope. Sadly, only my group got wet when it sprinkled on us – thankfully, the universe works in fairly established ways, and Nick the ex-pat Brit pulled two golf ‘brellies from the trunk of his Jaguar. All was right with the world, though sadly at the end of the race we hadn’t yet figured out health care. Or taxes/finance reform. Or public education reform. We did get ‘liz’s contact info so she can show up for us without us bothering Steve’s replacement. Sigh.

and time it changes … our clocks get changed. but some things don’t. Miss ya ma.
